Palacio e Jardins de Queluz

Composto por vários corpos construídos ao longo de dois séculos, o Palácio de Queluz tem uma planta irregular que reflecte o gosto da Corte portuguesa nos sécs. XVIII e XIX, misturando a arquitectura residencial, a rococó e a neoclássica. As sóbrias fachadas exteriores do palácio contrastam fortemente com as fachadas interiores que abrem para os jardins, e que apresentam um tratamento mais cuidado do ponto de vista decorativo, numa clara viragem para o estilo rococó, mais intimista. Balaustradas, frontões e molduras sobre as janelas e portas ornamentam a longa fachada posterior. Lá dentro, vastos e brilhantes aposentos ostentam mármores italianos e exóticas madeiras brasileiras, talhas douradas e pinturas coloridas. Uma nota especial para a Capela, com estrutura barroca, cujo espaço está dividido em apainelados pintados a marmoreados fingidos, a imitar pedras semi-preciosas e onde a cúpula da capela-mor é rasgada por dois óculos, por onde a luz passa e se reflecte em dois espelhos e ilumina o retábulo principal.
