Artificial Beach,
Male'
This is the place where you will find most people in the late afternoons. Despite so many beautiful beaches in Maldives, the capital is not blessed in this respect. Today the people of Male' can enjoy a good swim at artificial beach. This is a popular place for parents who take their kids for some fresh air and space to enjoy. Its been a long time that people of Male' felt the need of such a place. Due to over population and the rapid development taking place, people had forgotten about the importance of recreation and what it can bring to our lives and health. However over time, the need for such recreation places was felt badly by the government and this project came in to light couple of years back. Before, we have to get out of Male' and travel to some other island to enjoy a decent swim, but this has changed today. Anyone can just go for a quick dip at artificial beach and though its not comparable to a natural beach, its still better than having nothing. Today it is not only a popular place for swimmers, but a variety of sports, games shows and other events such as live music shows as well. On a regular day, it is a place for swimmers, children, parents and active sportsman. On special occasions, it is a place for get together, music shows, carnivals, parades and you name it. On Fridays the beach is quite packed, so consider this fact before getting there for a swim.

More About Male'

It is located at the southern edge of North Malé Atoll (Kaafu Atoll). It is also one of the Administrative divisions of the Maldives. Traditionally it was the King's Island, from where the ancient Maldive Royal dynasties ruled and where the palace was located. The city was also called Mahal. Formerly it was a walled city surrounded by fortifications and gates (doroshi). The Royal Palace (Gan'duvaru) was destroyed along with the picturesque forts (kotte) and bastions (buruzu) when the city was remodelled under President Ibrahim Nasir's rule after the abolition of the monarchy. However, the beautifully decorated Male' Hukuru Miskiy remains. In recent years, the island has been considerably expanded through landfilling operations. Over the years there have been many coup attempts and protests centered in Male as a result of demand for greater democracy in the Maldives.source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mal%C3%A9
