Curiosity at Murray Buttes, sol 1463
Out of this World
Curiosity self-portrait at Quela drilling site in the Murray Buttes area taken on sol 1463 at 13h45 local time. This panorama combines 89 pictures acquired on sol 1463 plus 2 pictures taken on sol 1466 showing the hole created by drilling at Quela site. Pictures are taken by MAHLI camera located at the end of Curiosity's arm. Wrist motions and turret rotations on the arm allowed MAHLI to acquire the mosaic's component images, with the arm positioned out of the shot in the images. The MAHLI camera can be seen in the miniature scene reflected upside down in the parabolic mirror at the top of the mast. Courtesy of Steve Albers for generating the sky.

More About Out of this World

The planet Earth has proven to be too limiting for our awesome community of panorama photographers. We're getting an increasing number of submissions that depict locations either not on Earth (like Mars, the Moon, and Outer Space in general) or do not realistically represent a geographic location on Earth (either because they have too many special effects or are computer generated) and hence don't strictly qualify for our Panoramic World project. But many of these panoramas are extremely beautiful or popular of both. So, in order to accommodate our esteemed photographers and the huge audience that they attract to 360Cities with their panoramas, we've created a new section (we call it an "area") called "Out of this World" for panoramas like these.Don't let the fact that these panoramas are being placed at the Earth's South Pole fool you - we had to put them somewhere in order not to interfere with our Panoramic World.Welcome aboard on a journey "Out of this World".

It looks like you’re creating an order.
If you have any questions before you checkout, just let us know at info@360cities.net and we’ll get right back to you.
