Daguan Park, also called the Grand View Park, is located by Dianchi Lake in the southwestern suburbs of Kunming City, facing the rolling Taihua Mountains over the water. The park received its name from the longest antithetical couplet (composing 180 Chinese characters) written by Sun Ranweng, a famous scholar in the Qing Dynasty. It is a beach garden possessing both the natural landscape and elegance of an ancient garden. The entire park is dotted with green embankments, graceful pavilions, and colorful flowers in four seasons. On the night of every Mid - Autumn Festival (Moon Cake Festival), it is customary for people in the town to flock here to enjoy the beauty of the moon and flowers. Looking down the water surface of the lake from the Grand View Pavilion, one can see the lake shimmering like silver, the pavilion's flying cornices silhouetted against the star-lit sky. The whole place is indeed a most enchanting sight.
