天涯海角风景区位于天涯镇马岭山麓，距三亚市约26公里。古时候这里交通闭塞，“飞鸟尚需半年程”的琼岛，人迹罕至，凄凉荒芜，是封建王朝流放“逆臣”之地。来到这里的人，来去无路，只能望洋兴叹，故谓之“天涯海角”。

冼夫人是著名的南越地区少数民族的首领，南朝梁时曾威服海南岛千余峒。她坚定维护祖国统一和民族团结，功勋显赫，隋文帝册封她为“谯国夫人”，以临振县(三亚市)为封地。
