English Peak (7322'/2232m) summit [2] (gigapixel)
California

Gigapixel view from the summit of English Peak (elev. 7,322') in the Marble Mountain Wilderness near Sawyers Bar, California.  The peak has sweeping views from the Trinity Alps to the south to the Russian Peak Wilderness to the west.  To the north is more of the Marble Mountain Wilderness leading up to Black Marble Mountain.  To the northwest lies distant Preston Peak & to the west one can see lower mountains leading to a faint view of the Pacific Ocean.  Directly below to the north one can see English Lake plus some granite glacial scouring & cliffs.  The peak is equipped with a small fire lookout that was built in 1950 & restored b/w 1995-96.  As you can see, nearly all the surrounding mountains have had their share of forest fires, many within the past ten years.  An area that had plenty of old-growth green forests is rapidly changing in this rather warm environment.  English Peak itself had the 2017 Island Fire, which scorched through the slopes below.
