因為淡水河面映著夕陽所反射出的金色柔柔波光，因此這條自行車道被取名為「金色水岸自行車道」，沿線美麗的風景與知名的觀光景點，使其美名不脛而走。單車遊客能飽覽淡水的人文與自然景觀，路況多屬平坦路段、騎乘時舒適度佳，適合一般大眾攜家帶眷在此騎車及紓解壓力。
