為打造高雄港洲際貨櫃中心，提升高雄港運輸競爭實力，於2007年啟動紅毛港遷村計畫，另於原址規劃建置「紅毛港文化園區」，位於高雄港二港口入口處，總面積有3.42公頃，設有高字塔旋轉餐廳、展示館、戶外展示區、天空步道、碼頭與候船室及觀海平台等區域，以展現聚落意象，並透過創意策展方式，見證高雄港開港100年發展歷程，也凝結紅毛港聚落緜延400年文史底蘊，形成永恆的記憶與傳承。
