後勁溪全長約13公里，流域面積廣達73.45平方公里，跨越楠梓、仁武與大社等區。， 2002年開始著手整治後，呈現清新健康的風貌，河道兩岸佈設環河自行車道及河濱步道，沿途栽種台灣欒樹、欖仁、七里香、馬櫻丹、文殊蘭等植栽花木，建構後勁溪綠美化生態廊道，串聯高雄都會公園、高雄大學、援中港濕地公園等，提供民眾平日散步、慢跑、騎自行車及假日賞景等活動的休閒綠色長廊。
