东北师范大学自然博物馆暨吉林省自然博物馆始建于1987年7月20日，原隶属于吉林省文化厅，为吉林省唯一省级自然博物馆。
目前展览共分《林之韵》、《山之魂》、《蝴蝶谷》、《鸟之灵》、《兽之趣》和《化石世界》六个展区进行展示，其中《林之韵》、《山之魂》为主要展区，它突出吉林省地方特色，主要展示吉林省具有代表性的生态景观——长白山，其他展区配合介绍了与吉林省生态环境有关的地质古生物、动物、植物等相关知识。陈列展览中还设计了一些有益于中小学生身心健康的项目，如鼓励增强勇气的攀岩，克服恐高心理障碍的高架玻璃桥，满足探秘心理的林中通幽，提高动手能力的标本制作、扩展知识面的联网计算机知识问答等，让观众在参观中得到身心的快乐，知识的熏陶，审美的情趣。
