竹子門發電廠位於美濃區境內，興建於1908年，為台灣第一代川流式發電廠。廠內四部發電機和古樸典雅的巴洛克式廠房歷史悠久，於1992年5月由內政部核定為國家三級工業古蹟。目前發電廠除繼續供應高屏地區電力所需及美濃地區農業灌溉、民生用水外，並開放機關團體預約參觀，發揮其觀光功能。
