九份主街道呈「丰」字型排列，豎崎路是主要的一條直向道路，昔稱「八號路坎仔」；顧名思義，這條路全由階梯構成，由上而下豎立山城，上自九份國小下至瑞濱海邊，大都由石頭所舖設，是九份最主要的縱貫線，由其串聯所有橫向街道。九份的人出門，不是爬坡就是下坡，腳力通常很好。早期九份的部份物資需自焿仔寮走豎崎路挑運上來，是九份一條極重要的物資要道，在當時郵差、搬運工等，都是非常辛苦的行業。
