建於1900年的高雄港站，舊稱「打狗驛」，是高雄第一座火車站，也是當時縱貫鐵路的終點站，擁有全國規模最大的38條鐵軌，呈放射狀散開並延伸至港邊，場景十分壯闊。歷經百年風華的老火車站現已功成身退，轉型成為鐵道文化園區，原站房空間改建為「打狗鐵道故事館」，存放百年鐵道和車站文物；另為保留鐵軌線型空間，透過鋪設木棧道以串連臨港線自行車道，落實文化資產再利用，亦使珍貴的台灣歷史記憶得以完整保存。
