The Market Square is one of the main features of the Katowice city center. Since 2012 the large area (about 735 000 sqm) of the Market Sqare has been thoroughly redeveloped and rebuilt. In the area of the whole square three smaller squares were marked out: Flower Square, Theatre Square and Katowice Defenders Square.
Flower Square was designed as a place to rest with many benches among trees on characteristic basements illuminated from below and a fountain. The modern buildings located by the square are the shopping centre "Zenit" and (across from it) the former Silesian Press Center, which has been renovated and converted into a city hall building.
