二仁溪發源於高雄市內門區，主流長61.2公里，流域面積達339.2平方公里。二仁溪曲流位於二仁溪的中上游，此區處於田寮區、內門區及台南市龍崎區等以泥岩地質為主的區域內，因該區降雨主要為強降雨型態，造就出特殊的曲流河道地形。隨著曲流的發育，河道的彎曲度逐漸增大，致使河水截彎取直，穿越曲流的頸部，形成曲流截斷，而下方河道形成牛軛湖，中央部份的小山丘則為環流丘。
