田寮區月世界係由雨水與河水在質地軟弱、色呈青灰且略含鹽質的泥岩區，長年累月強烈侵蝕而形成荒涼崎嶇之地形，地理學上稱做「惡地」，乃是因為地瞉「回春作用」，形成尖峰利脊，寸草不生的特殊地形景觀，有著淒涼荒漠之美，像月球之景象而名聞遐邇。
