Port of Echuca
Victoria
The vibrant Port of Echuca stands out as a premier heritage symbol in Australia. Erected in 1865 under the auspices of the Victorian Railways, the Port of Echuca Wharf played a pivotal role in the town's progress. Echuca thrived for years as a prominent hub for constructing river vessels, with some of its creations like the PS Adelaide remaining active on the Murray River to this day. During its zenith, Echuca boasted 8 active sawmills and facilitated the construction of as many as 240 paddle steamers annually. Constructed in 1859, the Bridge Hotel was established by Henry Hopwood, a former convict who emerged as one of Echuca's most resourceful personalities during the early colonial era.
