深澳岬最有名的象鼻岩，位於深澳岬的北方，默默的守護著深澳灣。海崖下方接近海水面處，因為波浪侵蝕作用強，常會使得崖壁上被挖蝕成凹壁。因此，通常可由海蝕凹壁的位置推測各時期不同海平面的高度，看出海水面的升降情形。而海蝕凹壁再繼續發育便可能形成深入海崖的洞穴。
