The Bharathapuzha (Bharatha River) is the second longest river in Kerala. Its also known by the names, Nila and Ponnani and originates in the western Ghats in Tamil Nadu State. Many dams and reservoirs on its upper course has reduced the flow of this major river which was once the economic and cultural lifeline of Kerala.
