UK's First Roundabout, Letchworth
England

Find out about Letchworth Garden City at Wikipedia. Never mind long URLs, just open Wikipedia Encyclopaedia and search by name. Wiki's write-up is quite detailed and better than I could do.

You will learn that the Garden City was established in 1903 and my panorama depicts a roundabout dating from about 1909. It is claimed to be the country's first roundabout, and if so I suspect the first in the British Empire and probably the first in the world. Well there wouldn't have been that many motor cars around at the time to use them.

Despite a century since the roundabout was built the driver of the blue Peugeot doesn't seem to know the rules and is about to pull out infront of the dark green Polo instead of giving way because it is on the roundabout. Not so; the two cars are no where near each other. It's an illusion; the kind one comes across often in panoramas. This panorama was made from six frames stitched together. The VW Polo* was shot on frame 1 and the Peugeot on frame 6 a minute or more later. So apologies to the driver of the Peugeot, the Polo was long gone before you reached the roundabout so your manoeuvre was perfectly safe.

* Ouch! I looked again. It ain't a VW Polo. Is it  a Vauxahal of some kind?

Let me know, and also if I show the correct roundabout in the map.
