In addition to the many colored hues on offer at Valley of Fire, the intricate banding of the colors in the sandstone is some of the best the southwest has to offer.  Hike a few meters and the pastel colors of the rainbow will transition beneath your feet.

These sandstone formations are visible to the east along much of the road on the way to the White Dome Trail.  They are easily accessible by hiking cross-country from parking area #2.  Be sure to avoid stepping on the cryptobiotic soil.
